[Fixed]Unable to Open 192.168.1.1 Router Configuration Web Page

Last Updated August 4, 2022 By Subhash D 1 Comment

To do any type of configuration settings, you need to open the router interface web page on your computer or laptop. The most common router addresses are 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. You can also find the router address mentioned on the back of the modem/router. In case you are getting a message of “This site can’t be reached” or “Unable to connect to the internet”, there are certain steps you need to perform to resolve this issue.

Steps to open or connect to router configuration web page

Check connectivity

The first step is to make sure you are able to connect to your wired or wireless router. Check the network icon on the screen and make sure your router is showing connected. If it is not connected, check that your router is powered On. Another way to check that you are connected to your router is to ping the router address. To do so open the command prompt from the start button of windows and type:

Ping 192.168.1.1

pinging general failure

If you are getting a general failure, as shown above, you need to open the network and sharing center and check the network connection. In case it is disabled, just enable the network connection by right-clicking on it and selecting enable.

If your computer is getting a reply from the router as shown below, it is time to move to the next step.

Check IP Address

By default, the IP address of the LAN card or Wi-Fi card is set to automatic as shown below.

automatic IP address

You have to fill in the IP address manually and it should be of the same class as your router. So, for example, if the router IP is 192.168.0.1 you need to fill in the IP address of your Network card as of the same class as 192.168.0 X and if the router’s IP address is 192.168.1.1, you have to fill in 192.168.1.x.  as shown below. After filling in the IP address manually, you can again check to open the router page.

Check Proxy settings.

If the proxy settings are On, you will face a problem opening the router page. To switch off the proxy settings you need to go to the control panel. Now click internet options and select the connections tab from the top menu and now click the LAN settings button.

Here you have to UN-CHECK the tick button from the “Use proxy server for your LAN”.

Disable Antivirus and Firewall.

This is another vital factor that might be blocking the default gateway address. You can disable the antivirus for some time and check whether the router page is opening now.

Reset Router/modem.

If none of the methods stated above works, the last step is to reset the router to factory defaults. A reset button is provided on the back side of the router. You need to press the reset button with the help of a pin.
