How to Change Fonts in Windows 10

Last Updated November 18, 2020 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

Everyone has ditched that old school method of keeping data on a private diary or in an exercise book and shifted the mode of data registry into the digital world. From school students to office works, business industries everywhere have cordially welcomed digital mode.

However, the frequency of digital devices is quite high but one can not think beyond it in the current situation. Digital devices have become part and parcel of everyday life and its instinct for a human being to customise settings for faster action, visual smoothness, or even performing better. One such crucial setting is ways to change the font in PC.

While most people stick to default font settings, there are various methods of changing the font to look better. Developers have designed every font as per clients’ choices. Some people prefer large font while some like small font whereas there are people who would rather go for medium size font.

The only motive is to look at the device better and suit the eyes perfectly. Moreover, the setting font according to screen size and the resolution looks more productive and organized. Little gaudy fonts are also there that may look a bit jarring for the eyes.

As Windows 10 is the most used operating system, many users like to customize, and developers also have offered different kinds of fonts. In Windows 10, one can change the default font framework. However, a little change in altering the registry is required to perform this action.

In the previous versions of Windows 10, like in Windows 7, users could change font just by personalization setting. Windows 7 offered convenient ways to change font, including textual style, message box, menu bar, title bar, symbols. But gradually, the change has been eliminated in Windows 10.

Top 3 Ways to Change the Font in Windows 10

1. Download it Straight from Microsoft Store

This is perhaps the easiest option out there. Users have to press Windows+I to open the settings panel. Then click on Personalisation and then go to Font. There is an option to Get more fonts in Microsoft Store. Click on it and it will lead users to an ocean of different types of fonts.

2. Download it from a Website

One can download and install font manually just by browsing on the internet. However, font packages often come with zip files. Users have to unzip it and install the font package. Another method one can use is downloading the zip or install package, then right-click on it to see the install option. Just clicking on the install option will do the rest of the job.

Another method will be to open the Control Panel. Now users need to click on Appearance and Personalisation. Then select Fonts and copy-paste the downloaded file in the opened-up font folder.

3. Change Font without Downloading Anything

Tech geeks would surely rely on this feature as it can make one uber-cool, and why not? This is a unique, tricky, and powerful method too. However, it is advised to make a “re-established point” before proceeding as reversing this method without proper knowledge can harm the PC. Like the previous method, open Control Panel, then click on Appearance and Personalisation. After that, click on the Font option. Users just need to take note of the desired font name.

Now open Notepad, copy and paste the below-mentioned registry code in Notepad.

“Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts]

“Segoe UI (TrueType)”=””

“Segoe UI Bold (TrueType)”=””

“Segoe UI Bold Italic (TrueType)”=””

“Segoe UI Italic (TrueType)”=””

“Segoe UI Light (TrueType)”=””

“Segoe UI Semibold (TrueType)”=””

“Segoe UI Symbol (TrueType)”=””

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes]

“Segoe UI”=”FontName””

Now replace the Font Name with the desired fonts as selected before this step.

Next, users have to open Notepad and then go to File and click Save As option. Next, click on the All Files option from the “drop-down menu” and save the file with the desired name setting .reg extension. Now, users have to double-click on the saved file and click Yes to add the entire information to the registry. Finally, restart the PC to make the necessary changes.

In a nutshell, users just need to make sure the entire font- size, color, shape suits the eye perfectly, and it does not look gaudy on screen. Also, the font must be legible. Some fonts like “Wingdings” or “Webdings” use symbols so, there could be difficulties in installation.
