Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Review

Last Updated September 6, 2021 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is the new launch of the era by Samsung, a watch for all android gadgets till 2021. The Digital bezel is the most satisfactory feature, which enhances its looks and feels. It comes in two models, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Both the models are similar yet different but in a good way.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 can be called the Ultimate smartwatch as most of the features are top-notch. Launched in August ‘ 2021, it comes in 2 sizes of 40mm and 44mm with a digital bezel and Bixby as a Samsung assistant. The same goes for the second model, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic but with a rotating bezel.

Samsung has launched many watches till 2021 and all have been best in themselves, but the need to upgrade was declared along with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Samsung has a winner on its hands as a wearable of the next generation. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is the first watch with Google OS wear powered by Samsung with the help of Google. Samsung has already launched many watches and these are most compatible with the Samsung Galaxy range. If you are an Apple iPhone owner, this watch is not for you since it’s not compatible with Apple Gadgets. But if you are an Android owner, you will need a Samsung Galaxy phone to access all the features of the smartwatch, like ECG and Blood pressure that can be monitored on the Samsung Health app only.

There is no doubt that this is the best watch for all watch lovers using Android. It can be a little disheartening for non-Samsung Android holders, in terms of incomplete access to all the watch features but if you do not have a smartwatch yet, it is a good choice to buy. Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is in the most affordable and pocket-friendly range, compared to previous watches of the series.

Special Features

Let’s have a detailed look into the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Collaboration with Google

The collaboration with Google has given a vast platform for Samsung to perform in the coming future. Samsung has always given priority to its apps and software but when it comes to the app store! Its Google play store is in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 which gives a much wider range to app lovers. This collaboration is new and maybe there is more in the bag. The connection between the two is going to be beneficial for the gadget world.

Design and Display

When it comes to design, every company has some specifications and targets in mind. The same goes with Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, it is slim-fit with two buttons on the right edge.  Both models of the watches have smooth transitions from chassis to straps without gaps in between.

Design is sleek and elegant with precise detailing. The Classic model has a physical bezel for fidget lovers and on the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 model has a touch rotating bezel, which gives a buzz when moved and accessed.

The sporty look of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is precise and comfortable which goes well while performing activities. The design feels comfortable for wearing throughout the day and it is light in weight.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 models, both run on the new Google Wear OS platform. They are the same on the inside and different on the outside. These watches are the first to be introduced in the market with this software, so in the coming future, they have more scope for omissions and additions as well. The software experience is the same for both watches, no changes there.

Google Wear OS is first time launched in the Samsung Watch Series. Earlier Tizen was the active software for the Samsung Watches. According to data, there is no glitch and flatters in the Google Wear OS performance yet! But tomorrow you never know.

The Google Wear OS Software will be seen in the many upcoming gadgets as well. If you are particularly going to upgrade for it, don’t do it. The next coming upgrades from the Samsung Galaxy watch series will be well defined with the software enhancements from google too.

Battery Life

With the operating apps running on the internet constantly, the battery life is not that promising. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has to be charged regularly. The 40 hours running cycle is not for actively running apps on the watch that consumes power. But on the other hand, it is satisfactory and not too bad.

Overall every smart gadget nowadays requires to be changed regularly so it’s not that much of a deal-breaker. But without GPS and other constant running apps, the Battery life is satisfactory.

Google Playstore

Google play store app is dominant for app lovers in the watches. Samsung app store is not available in Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 models. Google play store has a huge ground base to offer when it comes to the apps, which is a plus for Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series. Samsung app stores limit its users to Samsung only, whereas Google has a big network and choice to offer.

Watch Faces

Amazing Animation and dynamic watch faces are one of the attractive features of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 model. The animals and cartoon animations keep popping on the watch faces. This is quite a creative side of Samsung. There are quite good options for the same in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.

BIA Sensor

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis sensor for body composition analysis. In this app, full-body detection is done in seconds and a detailed description is given for the same. It passes an electric current through your body system to check the body mass index, fat percentage of the body, Water percentage of the body, muscle mass and bone mass. It gives you overall a good look at your system, but accuracy can be questionable until consulted by a doctor.

Pregnant Women and persons with pacemakers are not allowed or recommended to use the BIA Sensor as it is harmful to them.

Quick Review System

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has a quick review setup to check some basic apps, required constantly. The mini tiles appear on the watch screen when swiped left. They update you about all you need to know. The mini tiles are from the Tizen software, previously used till Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. Samsung has changed the software to Google Wear OS but kept some of the fine aspects from Tizen as well.

Samsung Health

Samsung Health is the Centre of attraction in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. The health system is pretty good in these and tracks a lot of sporty activities but you have to add them manually through the Samsung Health app on the smartphone. All your daily activities are funnelled into the Samsung Health app on the Samsung Galaxy smartphones. It gives you a perfect record to analyse and improve at any time.

Over the years the Samsung team has improved their health system immensely. They have great health-related programs like ECG, Blood Pressure app, BIA sensor, Heart rate checker, Calorie tracker and many more.

The activity tracking sensor does not pick every stop you make while out for a walk but the actual steps you walked. It covers only the movement and activity you do. The automatic activity tracker keeps an eye and responds in audible and vibration mode, every 30 minutes. The GPS for runs is an excellent feature.

Stress and Sleep Record

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has enhanced the quality of sleep record and stress tracking metrics in this upgrade. Stress tracking helps you to keep an eye on your mental health statistics and for sleep, a record sheet is a proof you need every morning.

It also gives you stats for your stress levels too.

PROS

  • New Wear OS with more apps options
  • Nice sleek and attractive design
  • Dynamic Watch faces
  • Interesting Animation on screen
  • Lightweight design

CONS

  • Google assistant is not present
  • Bixby is not up to the mark
  • Not completely compatible with non-Samsung Android phones
  • No Rotating Bezel in Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Final Verdict

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is a good upgrade and the latest android smartwatch you can get at the available prices. According to the verdict, it is the watch for Samsung Android holders to access all the features. Non-Samsung Android holders can’t use all the apps that limit with a Samsung phone. If you already have a Samsung Watch, it is entirely your choice to go for it but not necessary. The new Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series are much more affordable than the previous Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and with better features as well but without a Rotating Bezel. The overall composition of the watch body and health app system is top-notch for Samsung World but all narrows down to your budget and preferences.
