Track your Friend’s Location with WhatsApp Share Live Location Feature

Recently Facebook-owned WhatsApp launched its new feature to know the real-time location of your friend. This is indeed a handy tool to locate the movement of your spouse or a friend that is on the move. You can ask your children or spouse to turn on the live location once they are out and helps you track them for safety concerns. For friends, it is helpful for assembling at a common meeting place and knowing the exact location of each other. This feature is available on both Android and iOS platforms. It will not be wrong to call it a security feature and is useful to every WhatsApp user in its own way. This live location feature has already created a buzz and let’s learn how to enable and use it on a smartphone.

How to Share Live Location on WhatsApp

Earlier, there was an option to share your one-time or static location with others but with the latest update, WhatsApp has added an additional option to share a live location for a specified period of time.

Step-1

Open WhatsApp and pick a friend from the chat with whom you intend to share your LIVE whereabouts. Now tap on the attachment sign as shown in the image.

Step-2

On the next screen, you have to tap on location. Now you are asked for two options. You can either “Send your current location” or “Share Live Location”. The 1^st option will let the other person see your present location but if you move to some other place your friend will not be able to track you. So what the 2^nd (new) option does is that it lets your friend track your live location on the go. Tap on Share Live Location.

It will ask you to select 3 time-period options (15 minutes, 1 hour, 8 hours) and optionally you can also add a comment.

Step-3

Once you shared the location, you always have the option to stop sharing as shown below. You just need to tap on the stop sharing button.

WhatsApp’s location-sharing option is as good as Google’s live map utility.
