There are many types of fonts available but the most common type of font that you can install in any version of windows is True Type Fonts (ttf).

Before you start installing fonts in windows 10, you can download fonts for free from Google fonts which offer a rich repository of fonts. You can select a particular font by clicking on plus sign and then download it in zip form to a specific location on your hard disk. Other online sources of fonts include FontSquirrel and DaFont.com and urbanfonts.com.
