If you lose your Apple watch by mistake, you are at the risk of losing a lot of your personal information, which you would not be happy sharing with others.
With the customer-centered approach that Apple has, it allows you to access your messages, contacts, and every other feature from the watch. To ensure that your privacy is intact, you must take care of the security settings. You would also not need much to get yourself protected. Apple has your back, and you are protected!
So, here are a few settings to help you with your security and privacy.
Take Care of Your Watch Passcode
When you set up your Apple Watch for the first time, you have probably been asked to create a passcode. This is a basic security measure that you must understand. So, if there is the slightest chance that you have a password that you think is not strong enough, reach out to the Settings app for your Apple Watch on your iPhone. Then tap on Passcode and finally select Change Passcode.
On an important note, be very sure that you do not use a passcode that is very tough for you to remember. Although you would be able to open the watch from your iPhone if you forget the Passcode, it becomes inconvenient.
Notification Privacy
When you have an iPhone and an Apple Watch, it is convenient to check the notifications right away. But in case you miss your watch, it would mean that you are at risk! But then, you can save yourself from compromising essential data. If you are concerned with your privacy, it would be recommended that you enable the Notification Privacy for yourself.
Enabling the Notification Privacy is simple,
- Open the My Watch tab,
- Choose Notifications, and then turn on Notification Privacy.
On enabling this, you would be able to see that you have a notification from a given application. However, you would not be able to see the details of the notifications. So, you would not have to worry about your data being leaked.
Activation Lock & Find My Apple Watch
In case you are someone who keeps forgetting stuff, you might probably just wish to know about this feature. The Find My Apple Watch is a feature that would help you keep your Apple Watch safe.
This feature would help you locate your watch and then automatically trigger the Activation Lock feature. This feature would make sure that nobody can unpair, open or mess with your watch without your Apple ID and password.
To activate the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, select My Watch, then your watch name, and then click on Info. If you see Find My Apple Watch on the screen, it means you are protected, and you can search for your watch if you lose it.
With the Find My Apple Watch feature, you can even set a custom message which would be visible on the screen. This message can even be your contact number on which someone can reach out to you. Finally, if all your attempt to retrieve the watch fails, you might just use the feature to delete all your data.
Passcode Attempts Would Deleted After 10 Wrong Passcode Trials
If you are concerned about your watch data, then the Erase Data feature is something up for you. Especially if you think someone is spying on you, then this is the feature that you need. The Erase Data feature would delete all your data after 10 failed passcodes. So, if someone tries to open your watch, Apple has your back!
To activate the Erase Data feature, get to the settings section of your Apple Watch from your iPhone. Then enter your Passcode and toggle the Erase Data option on.
Fitness and Heart Rate Data Privacy
Your health details are also personal. You definitely would not want this data to be leaked. So, while securing all other details, you would also need to secure the Heart Rate and Fitness Tracker.
This again is another feature that is easy and simple to protect. On your Apple Watch, go to the Privacy section, then select Heart Rate, toggle it off. Fitness Tracking can also be toggled off in the same way!
