How to Change Download Location in Different Internet Browsers

Last Updated November 30, 2022 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

By default, whenever you download a file from the internet, it is saved to a download folder in the hard disk drive. After some time you feel that this folder is overcrowded with so many files in it. Sorting and finding a particular file also becomes cumbersome many times due to a large chunk of files. Moreover, since the download file is in a C drive and in most cases it is the OS partition of a hard drive. For optimum functioning of the operating system and faster file access, the C partition should not be full. So in order to overcome such a situation you can change the default download folder in Chrome, Edge, and other internet browsers. Let me explain the procedure to change the download location in all the main browsers.

1. Google Chrome

Chrome is the most widely used (55.68%)  browser worldwide as per the latest stat counter reports. To change the download folder, click on three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the browser. Now navigate to settings>Advanced.

Under the Advanced heading, move to the Downloads sub-heading. Here you need to turn on the change button and now click on change and select the desired location.

2.  Safari

Navigate to preferences. Now as you can see in the screenshot below, in front of “Save downloaded files as” change the location to other and then select the intended folder.

3. UC browser

This is a chromium-based internet browser with a simple user interface. It requires a similar procedure as we followed in chrome. Go to the upper corner of the browser and click settings.

4. Mozilla Firefox

Open Menu of the Firefox and click on the options button.

6. Microsoft Edge

Click on 3 horizontal dots in the upper-right corner of this browser and click settings. Now from various setting options, click on View Advanced settings and change the download location.

These are the most popular browsers worldwide and there is a slight difference in the way you can change the download settings. You can save the downloaded files not only to the desired folder or a partition of the hard drive but in fact, you can save them on an external drive or a network location.
