How to Check Battery life of AirPods on iPhone and Apple Watch

Last Updated January 11, 2025 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

If you are using 2nd generation AirPods, you can expect 24 hours of listening time and 18 hours of talk time with multiple charging. Your AirPods can get up to 5 hours of listening time and 3 hours of talk time with a single charge.

If you are using 1st generation AirPods, you can expect 24 hours of listening time and 11 hours of talk time with multiple charging. 1st gen AirPods will give you 5 hours of listening time and 2 hours of talk time when you charge them only once. If you have less time to charge your AirPods like only 15 minutes, you will be getting up to 3 hours of listening time and over an hour of talk time.

You can put both of your AirPods in the case when they are not in use so that it can charge your AirPods on the go. Moreover, you can also charge your case with or without the AirPods in it.

On iPhone

There are 2 ways of checking the battery of your AirPods

  • You can open your case lid with the AirPods inside and bring it near to your iPhone. Wait for a few minutes to check the battery life of your AirPods with the case.
  • You can also check the status of charging of AirPods with the Batteries widget on your iOS device. The charging percentage only appears when the AirPods are in the case. If the battery widget is not there, you can open the widgets page by swiping right and going to the bottom of the screen where you will find an edit option. Then simply tap the green plus button in the list next to batteries and tap did on the upper right corner.

If your AirPods are in the case, you can also check the battery by the status light, and the lid is open, then the light shows the charge status of your AirPods. When your AirPods are not in your case, it will show your case’s battery. Green means fully charged, amber means less than one full charge is remaining and you need to charge it ASAP.

You can also check the battery of your AirPods by directly asking SIRI. You can set this function manually and one of your AirPods will answer directly to this question. You can ask “Hey Siri! How much battery is left in both of my AirPods?”

On Apple Watch

To see the percentage of the battery on your Apple Watch, firstly you have to check whether your AirPods are connected to your Apple Watch are not. To do this, swipe up to the control center and find a blue airplay icon. Tap on it and your AirPods will be indicated showing they are connected.

Now, swipe up to the control center again to see the battery percentage icon. Tap on it and the bottom third of the screen will read out your current battery life. If your left and right AirPods are at different levels, you can use the crown to scroll down to see the battery life.

If your AirPods are in the case, you just have to open the case and through the Bluetooth of the Apple Watch, the battery life of the case itself will be shown up also. Apple watch is launched without a headphone jack and that is the main reason that every step relies upon Bluetooth.

Finally

According to the users of AirPods, 2nd generation AirPods are more useful and offer more functions when compared to the 1st generation AirPods. Siri function is only there in the 2nd generation AirPods. These are the magical devices that can last up to 5 hours after every charge and you can also charge it with the case itself which can extend the battery life up to 25 long hours. When the battery is that low, you will hear a little sound effect as a warning and after that, it will go off without any more warnings.
