Last Updated October 3, 2018 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

Google photos offer a cloud platform to not only store but also organize them apart from doing many things. We will explore all the features of  Google Photos in this knowledge sheet. There are other similar photo-hosting services like Flickr, One drive or iCloud but Google photos provide some amazing features when compared to other image sharing cloud solutions. Google Photos app is available on Windows, iOS, and Android devices. You also get unlimited photo-storage on the cloud.

Features of Google Photos

1 Search Option

Google photos combines the features of flicker, photo gallery, and Instagram into a single package. Right from the Google photos app’s interface, you can directly share the pictures with your friends or colleagues. You can also create and share a unique link with others who are not using Google Photos.  Just like in Instagram, you can add filters to the photos apart from editing them using tools like crop, color, lighting effects and much more.

The other astounding feature of Google Photos app is that it automatically adds tags based on the location, objects,  occasion, image type, animals, selfies, time and dates. This app also automatically creates folders based on these attributes.  This helps Google Photos in searching particular files based on keywords.  With the group similar faces feature you can manually tag the pics and give them nicknames that will eventually help you in searching later on.

You can create albums and share them with friends and groups and assign various permissions. The permissions include read-only, add comments, add photos and much more. You can also select various photos to create a video or an animation.

2 Backup Photos

In backup and sync settings you can customize the way this app backups your photos on the device. You can change the Google account and moreover, you have the option to change the quality of photos to be backed up. Either you can choose the original photos or high quality compressed photos. But remember, if you want to retain the original quality of the photos, you will get limited Google drive space, but on selecting the “high quality” option, you get unlimited cloud storage.

You can also select various backup conditions when you want to get your photos uploaded to the cloud. The conditions include backing up the photos only on WiFi and only when the device is connected to power-source or on charging mode.

You can also backup the photos from other apps apart from Google photos if you know the location where the files are stored for respective apps.

3 Remove Redundancy

Another remarkable feature that needs a mention here is the Google Assistant. It prompts you to remove photos from your device once these files have been uploaded on a cloud. It helps you keep your device light, clean and avoid duplication of files.

4 Selecting multiple photos

Whether you are on the web or on Android phone, Google Photos allow you to choose multiple pics in a one go by long pressing the first pic and continue tapping others to select them. Apart from the multiple-image selection option, you can also move the pics up-down or in a right or left direction. This is really a time-saving feature of Google Photos app.

5 Cast Photos on TV

When you open a pic in Google Photos, you can see a Cast-icon on the top and you just need to tap that icon to view the pictures on TV. But make sure the Chromecast and the Device connect to the same Wi-Fi connection.

6 Restore deleted photos

In case you delete the photo accidentally, there is no need to worry since the Google Photos keep these deleted pics in a trash for sixty days. So, you can navigate to the trash folder and restore it from the options available there on the photo.

7 Hide Photo location

Sometimes you do not want to share the information about where the photo was taken. If that is the case, you can go to settings and select “Remove Geo Location”. But note that this option is valid only when you share the photo-link to the other person.

Final Words

Google Photos offer much more functionality than the conventional gallery photos utility. With unlimited storage and automatic backup, Google photos, add value to the basic photo storing and sharing features. This is a must try utility. So, download it now from Android or iOS store now and share your views on this powerful image hosting and sharing tool.
