GPU and GPU Servers: The Pathway to Infinite Possibilities

If someone from the year 2025 would come to you in 1999 and tell you of all the things made possible by computers in the not-so-distant future, what would you think? Probably one of these things: either they’re an unreasonable optimist, a conspiracy theorist, or a science-fiction writer who lost his contact with reality. In the meantime, the computing revolution has happened, and GPU processing power had a prominent impact on all the technological changes. Let’s look at the GPUs a little bit closer, including a simple way to have them at your service without spending all the money you have.

What is a GPU in Simple Terms?

Everybody has heard of CPUs, even the people who aren’t generally interested in computed architecture or circuitry. Without them, our computers would be useless, as it’s the CPU that allows a machine to understand code and translate it into electrical signals. Similarly to the CPU, a GPU is also a processing unit, but one useful specifically for processing graphics and images. Most computers use both, with many employing a simpler, pre-built solution like an integrated graphic card.

The interesting thing about GPUs is that they have a mind-boggling number of uses besides processing graphics. Because they can process data in parallel, as opposed to the serial data processing characteristic for CPUs, it’s possible to draw from their computing power to achieve some truly remarkable results. When several GPUs are put together and linked, the result is what we call a GPU server. Though the cost of building such a server is prohibitive for many people, virtually everyone can use them now via GPU server rental services.

Does a GPU equal a Graphics Card?

The answer to this question isn’t as clear as it would seem at first glance. Why? Simple because it depends on who’s asking the question – or providing a said answer. To an electrical engineer or a CS major a GPU and a graphics card are essentially different instances of hardware you can use in your machine. To the regular user who reaches for GPU rental power to render graphics or play games, they’re not really that dissimilar.

The more important question here is: where the said hardware should be located and what is its intended use? The leading GPU manufacturers like NVIDIA make some very specific types of software, each with a dedicated range of purposes. When choosing a GPU or a graphic card to supplement a computer, it’s always wise to research the particular type we’re planning to buy.

How to Use Multiple GPUs without the Need to Buy Them?

While GPU servers are a great option for many teams and businesses, there are plenty of other ways to tap into the power of a GPU without breaking the bank. From cloud-based services to external GPUs, there are plenty of options to suit your budget. Some software applications even offer GPU acceleration, which means they can use the power of your computer’s GPU to speed up processing times. So even if you don’t have a dedicated GPU, you may still be able to take advantage of its power in certain situations.

But for the more advanced use cases, you’d rather want to choose a dedicated GPU server rental. This solution is ingenious, yet very simple – providers that lease GPU to businesses and individuals exist on the market! By browsing their offerings and choosing the one that best suits your budget, you get an incredible chance to boost your processing speed with a very manageable cost.
