If you have windows 10 as the operating system of your device, there is no need of 3rd party VPN software since this Win10 OS supports all the necessary protocols like PPTP, IKEv2, SSTP, and L2TP. In the earlier article, we have discussed some of the free VPN services. Most of them provide their own desktop applications but in windows 10, you can easily setup and configure a VPN connection once you have all the necessary credentials of the VPN service provider.
Steps to setup VPN connection in windows 10
Head to the start button, click settings, and open Network and the Internet. You have to make sure that the user through which you are logged in should have administrative privileges.
From the left side menu, you need to click VPN and on the right side you can see the option to “Add a new VPN connection”.
In the next window, you need to fill in the right credentials to setup a VPN connection
In the connection name, you can provide any name which you can identify your VPN connection. The next field is the server name or address. Here you can fill in the server name or IP address of your VPN service provider. As an example, we have provided vpn.testconnection.com as the VPN address. The next field is VPN type where you are asked to fill in the VPN protocol. If you are not sure of the protocol you can keep it to the automatic setting.

Now you need to select the log-in or sign-in type. The options include Username/password, smart card, One-time password, and Certificate. After you select the particular sign-in type you need to provide the related inputs. Here we have selected username and password. In the last, it will ask you to click the radio button to “remember my sign-in info”. Tick it only if you are using your personal computer and nobody else has access to it otherwise as a security measure it is not advised to select it.
Finally, you can see in the settings that a new TEST-VPN connection has been created. To establish a connection, click it and you will see more options like connect, properties and forget.
Additionally, you can do advanced settings that include editing connection settings and manual proxy settings.
