Lenovo Teases Rolling Screens For Laptops and Phones

Last Updated December 23, 2022 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

Lenovo has introduced a new range of smartphones and laptops using rollable screen technology. In one of the promotional videos, Lenovo disclosed a new series of phones and laptops with rollable screens at their Tech World 2022 event.

These devices have been introduced with an extended display that can be easily extended upwards, providing more screen space to the users. The flexible OLED panels can be essentially rolled up within the smartphone or the laptop and can further be unscrolled to expand the screen.

Lenovo has uploaded a video where the entire demonstration of the scrolling screen has been shown. In the video, it can be seen that the rollable screen scrolls out where a much bigger screen is displayed. The company has also promised that the laptops would enable users to multitask while keeping the design compact easily.

Lenovo’s new smartphone would be expanding in the same way as shown in the demo video. Luca Rossi, Executive Vice President Lenovo, has shown how the product slides out from a much smaller screen which is initially square, to a much longer rectangular screen. Luca Rossi has also promised that the smartphone would not make you sacrifice the screen size and can be retracted to the size of any premium smartphone.

As of now, Lenovo has been saying that these are merely the specimens of the concept, making it unclear for the general public to understand whether these prototypes would ever be launched as usable gadgets. If however, the company decides to manufacture these devices, the actual challenge they would face is the chances of the screen breaking down over time with excessive usage.

Samsung has also debuted a range of foldable tablets with rollable screens, where the screen display can be extended from 13 to 17 inches. Intel has also been hoping to launch new devices with rollable screens; however, they would mainly target the PC industry.
