3 Essential Things to Research Before Buying Wholesale Cell Phones in Bulk

Last Updated August 8, 2022 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

Mobile phones have become a quintessential part of people’s day-to-day lives. Even ten to fifteen years back, they were considered a luxury item, but no more. However, mobile phone technology changes fast, and it is hard for many to afford the hefty price tags of OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer). People still look constantly for upgrades by buying a better model. This is exactly where the market for used mobile phones starts blooming.

As more and more people want to get their hands on a specific model, they eye for used phone sellers. That is why buying wholesale cellphones is becoming a budding business spectrum for resellers.

Nevertheless, starting a used phone business is not just about buying bulk from any random cellphone wholesaler. You need to research certain things before making a final call. Find some of them in this article.

Pre-owned or Refurbished Phone?

A used phone is one that was previously taken out from its box by the buyer. When you buy such phones in bulk, first know about their categories.

These used phones can be of two categories – pre-owned and refurbished.

A pre-owned second-hand phone is one that is certified by the seller. In simple words, the seller has checked and tested the device, guaranteeing that it functions as it should. On the other hand, a refurbished phone is one that has undergone some damage repairs to make the phone work.

Most wholesalers sell both pre-owned and refurbished mobile phones. They categorize phones based on their condition into grades like A1, B1, B2, C1, and C2. While A1 denotes the best condition physically, C2 is the least.

Locked or Unlocked Phone?

Some smartphones get locked exclusively to one mobile phone carrier. For instance, after buying a new iPhone, users need to select a carrier to activate the device. After selecting the carrier, the phone will be locked with that unless the user unlocks it back afterward.

So, when you buy used phones in bulk, always verify if the device is unlocked. Unlocked devices assure customers that they can select a carrier of their choice to activate it.

The Overall Condition of the Phone

Knowing the condition of the used smartphones is crucial to avoid ill-advised purchases. A mobile phone’s condition depends on age, previous usage, and several other factors. Before you buy used Android smartphones or iPhones in bulk for your store, never forget to closely evaluate the overall condition of the phones. After all, you wouldn’t want to buy a defective phone and sell it to your customers.

As a second-hand phone seller, you need to know everything about the phones you buy in bulk. Ask questions like these to the wholesaler.

  • How old are the phones that are available for bulk buying?
  • Are the phones damaged physically or internally?
  • Have the phones undergone any major repairs to make them work?
  • Are the phones unlocked?
  • Do the phones still receive software updates from the OEMs?

Final Words

When buying wholesale cellphones, make sure you ask every question that comes to your mind. There is nothing like wrong questions because ultimately, your customers will buy these phones from your company. So, to gain a reputation as a trusted second-hand phone seller, you need to buy them in bulk from a trusted wholesaler.
