How to Choose Tone, Composition and Colors for Web Design

Last Updated August 4, 2022 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

Website design is all about how you present information unique to a business to the world through the platform called the WWW. Website design is nothing but the right mix of color, tone, and composition. A different person perceives colors in a different manner. It is all due to a complex system called a brain that makes a viewer react to a specific color and associate it with a certain mood or emotion. This applies to the websites as well. Most of us tend to like those websites that generate a positive feeling and immediate appeal with their artistic visuals.

A website must score high on the harmony of its layout elements to get an overwhelming response from the intended audience. So, the basic guiding rule is that by balancing color, tone, and composition you can create an ideal website design that gives you anticipated returns.

How to select web design color scheme, tone, and composition

Color

People may admire one color while despising another. To handle the variety of website visitors the general suggestion is- Keep It Simple.  Varied sentiments of visitors can be easily taken care of by the subtle use of pleasant colors on the website. If the clientele base for your website is that of a younger age group then go for bold and attractive color combinations.

The transition of colors from one component to another must be natural adhering to the flow and keeping the blend of color in check. Pastels or earthy colors are not essentially boring but may not be very effective to generate interest in users. Flashy and striking colors may look eye-capturing but can take the focus away from what you want to say through the website.

Every color must be there for a reason. Your liking or disliking for the specific color is not the guiding factor here. The secret lies in the way the chosen colors for web design highlight different elements to create an effective impact on the visitors.

There is a general observation from an artist’s vision and feedback from different website users that a color combination created with more than 5 core colors appears messy. So you must stick to the 3-5 colors rule.

You can choose two shades of one color to blend and apply to the header section, images, button backgrounds, graphics, menu backgrounds, and popups. To create the desired impression on text, select up to three contrasting colors and highlight the text placed in headers, paragraphs, and menus.

Tone

In the previous section, the whole stress was on the color and its application to the website to convey the real essence of the business it represents. Another aspect of a website that carries equal weight is its tone. The tone is like the aura that helps a visitor to create a view.

Since tone presents the soul of a website, it must be pleasant and quintessentially appealing. It should create a sense of positivity about the website. The colors, style, and text should stick to the business with a bend towards being adequately informative and self-sufficient.

The color scheme should not be abrupt or jarring. It should have a rhythm that binds all the elements of a website. A pleasing and convivial expression of the website will keep the visitor glued to your site. This feeling of amiability and worthiness impels visitors to revisit your online business platform.

A web designer must discuss the look and feel the owner wants to put across.  It must outlive the competition posed by rivals in the business. The right tone of the website will extend a pleasing and enjoyable experience to the clients.

Composition

The composition can be defined as the placement of website elements to offer a convenient and easy-to-follow layout. It must represent the intuitive structure of the website and related web pages.

There are a number of components like text, images, menus, and UI controls that complete a website. Care must be taken to arrange the needed components to bring out the character of the website. The onlooker must have the feeling that a specific element is where it should be and not forced out of necessity.  It must comply with the overall look and feel of the website.

Managing and synchronizing different elements is essential to balance them so that a web page must not look overcrowded or plain blank. The buttons should be placed where clicking seems natural, menus should appear at the location where choosing the needed option is convenient for the visitors.

Conclusion

The USP of a website depends on the first visual impact it generates on its visitors. This is the moment when he will decide to stay on or move away. By applying the right colors, positive tone, and balanced composition you can create a work of genius out of your website design. Nothing beats a welcoming website with a promise of valuable and accurate information.
