How to Turn On Do Not Disturb while Driving in iOS11 on iPhone

If you do not want to get distracted by the message or a voice call notifications while driving, iOS11 offers a vital feature of Do Not Disturb while Driving. As per one of the latest WHO reports on road traffic injuries, people who use mobile phones during driving are four times more prone to road crashes. Apple has rightly addressed this issue by introducing a new road safety feature by prohibiting the incoming calls and other notifications automatically. It lets you customize the Do-Not-Disturb settings in a number of ways as per your convenience. You must utilize this wonderful safety feature to stop a number of notifications like calls, WhatsApp messages, battery draining apps, banking, news, etc. So let us follow these simple steps to enable Do Not Disturb in iOS 11 for safe driving.

Instructions to Turn-on Do Not Disturb in iOS11

Open settings from the home-screen, on the next screen you can find Do Not Disturb feature just under the Control Center. On the Do Not Disturb page, you can find a number of settings that you can customize.

Here you can see following settings starting from the top of the list.

Do Not Disturb

Turning on this setting will permanently convert your iPhone to silent mode and a moon icon will start to appear on the top of the screen. (Not Recommended)

Scheduled

This setting will let you schedule a time period during which you do not want to get disturbed.

Silence

It allows you to silence the notifications either when the phone is locked or un-locked

Phone

This setting will allow the calls from the contacts that are added to favorites when the DND is on.

Repeated Calls

If you turn this option on, a person’s second call within a 3-mitue time will not get silenced.

Do Not Disturb While Driving

This is the option that is most useful and introduced first time in iOS11. It lets you drive without knocking your ears repeatedly. This is an intelligent feature that uses location services to detect whether you are driving, at home or reached your destination. You have the choice to select any of the following 3 options.

  • Automatically. In this mode, the iPhone will silence all the incoming notifications including calls and turn the screen into dark. The iOS 11 uses the vehicle’s Bluetooth connection, Wi-Fi connection or accelerometer to detect whether the user is in driving mode or not. This mode will turn on the Do Not Disturb even if you are travelling in a vehicle with Bluetooth connectivity. So this is not one of the accurate modes to use.
  • When connected to Bluetooth. This option will activate the DND only when your iPhone is connected to car’s Bluetooth.
  • Manually. This will allow you to turn on DND before you start driving. For better user access, you can move Do Not Disturb icon on the control panel.

Auto Reply To

This option will send automatic message to your favorites list saying

“I’m driving with Do Not Disturb While Driving turned on. I’ll see your message when I arrive t my destination”

This is an important safety gear that helps you from getting distracted by notifications and lets you focus on your driving.
