Twitter is one of the most popular social platforms in the last decade. I myself am an avid user of Twitter through all its ups and downs. What separates Twitter from other platforms of its ilk is the hard limit of up to 280 characters for each tweet. This hard cap forces users to be brief in their discourse and thus helps make it a distilled think tank.
However, it’s also common knowledge that Twitter could do with a makeover of its UI/UX and general quality-of-life features. Its video player is notoriously slow, low quality, and offers no option to download video from tweets. Until then, we will have to make do. Here I would like to share a guide on how to download Twitter videos using a web downloader for both desktop and mobile devices. Let’s take a look!
Download Twitter Videos on a PC
On most devices and operating systems, one of the easiest ways to download videos and GIFs from Twitter is by using a Twitter downloader app such as SnapTwitter.com, TWdown, or TWSaver. Simply type the URL in your web browser and follow 4 steps I have laid out below:
Step 1: Find the Tweet with the video you want to download and copy the link: i.e https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1625969493137833984?s=20
Step 2: Open your web browser and go to the Twitter downloader website: i.e Snaptwitter (You can try others).
Step 3: Paste the URL of the tweet into the toolbar up top.
Step 4: Click “Download” and there you go. Some apps also allow you to choose the quality of the video before downloading.
There are many advantages to using a web app to download Twitter videos, such as:
- Easy to use and fast
- Retain the original quality of tweet videos
- 100% Free
- Does not require plugins or extensions
Download Twitter Videos on mobile phones (iOS & Android)
If you are using mobile phones to download, the process is generally the same as for PC devices. However, there is some difference for iPhone/iPad users that I have detailed in the steps below:
Download Twitter Videos on Android phones
For Android phones, follow our guide for PC devices and you are good to go. Copy the tweet link -> Go to Snaptwitter on a mobile web browser -> Paste in the link and download
Download Twitter videos on iPhone
iPhone/iPad with iOS updated to version 13.0 or higher can download Twitter videos the same way as Android or PC devices can. For devices with a more dated OS version, don’t worry, I have got you covered. The steps are:
Step 1: Copy the tweet link
Step 2: Download the “Documents by Readdle” app from the App Store. This is a free file manager and media player app that allows you to download videos from Twitter.
Step 3: Open the Documents app and tap the compass icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Step 4: In the address bar, type in “Snaptwitter.com” and go to the website.
Step 5: Paste the tweet link in the URL box and click the Download button.
Step 6: Tap and hold the Download button beside the resolution you prefer (we recommend selecting the highest resolution available in most cases) until a menu appears.
Step 7: Select “Download Linked File” from the menu.
Step 8: The video will begin downloading and will be saved in the Documents app. To find it, open the Documents app and go to the Downloads folder.
With these simple steps, you can easily download Twitter videos on your iOS devices using Snaptwitter and the Documents app.
