Google Working on Apple AirTag-Like Smart Tracker Codenamed ‘Grogu’

Last Updated January 30, 2023 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

According to reports, Google is developing a new smart locating tag to increase the number of linked devices available. Similar to Apple’s AirTag and Samsung’s SmartTag, the new device will operate on a dispersed tracking network. These smart locating tags are in the early stages of development and will be available under the name “Grogu.”

Utilizing an inside speaker, the smart locator will assist users in finding a lost object very easily. The gadget keeps track of everyday necessities like wallets, keys, purses, and other stuff you can lose throughout a busy day. Although Google hasn’t officially announced the advancement of its smart tracker, the rumors itself has been creating a buzz.

Grogu is anticipated to connect to a smartphone through Bluetooth and deliver real-time location information. The device is still in the early phases of development, and a release date has not yet been announced. Despite the rising market demand for such practical gadgets, the business’s interest in the tracker is not unexpected. Apple introduced AirTag in April 2021, and people have embraced it for its high utility value. This has greatly impacted businesses testing the market with similar products.

The market entry of Google has enormous potential since it encourages innovation and gives customers a wide range of options. It’s anticipated that Grogu will have a function that enables customers to find their products on Google Maps. The “Find My Device” function of Apple AirTag is comparable to this feature. Google has incorporated Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology into their Pixel series. Compared to Bluetooth, this technology provides a higher accuracy when calculating the distance between devices.

With the assistance of this new technology, precise distance measurements and directional guidance for a particular UWB-enabled device will now be possible. With Grogu, Google is expected to test the new technology further. There have been several rumors regarding the onboard speaker on Grogu, similar to that on AirTag, and the available colors. However, none of it has been verified as yet.

According to rumors, Google may present Grogu during the upcoming Google I/O and introduce it at the traditional fall event. Google typically announces the latest Pixel products at this time. The tracker might end up being a prominent component of the phone. Although Google has not yet officially acknowledged it, its foray into this sector may cause problems for other firms that operate in related industries.

Google is renowned for establishing benchmarks for innovation across industries. Therefore, it is reasonable to predict that such trackers will be quite popular paired with the gadgets that companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, and Samsung offer.
