Last Updated September 16, 2020 By Subhash D Leave a Comment

Whether you are trying to place a call to one of your acquaintances in the UK or setting up your business communication in the same country, you must have a decent idea of what are the different telephone numbers as used in the UK and how to use them to initiate seamless business communication.

How do you Call Someone in the UK?

Let’s say you wish to call someone residing in the Cambridge location. You might have the landline number of the person but that’s not enough. In order to connect with someone residing in Cambridge, you would need to add 01223 as the prefix to the landline number. Now you might be wondering where is 01223 phone code for, or can I make calls from a similar number using cNumber virtual numbers, right?

01223 is the four-digit area code used for locations near to Cambridge. Similarly, there are other codes specific to the area. In order to connect with your mates in a different region, you must be aware of the codes. But, is this enough? The 4 digit area code and the landline number?

It is but only if you belong to the same country. In case you are calling from outside of the UK, you would need to know more about calling people in the UK.

Now suppose if you are calling from a different country, you must have the county code alongside to facilitate uninterrupted communication.  Every country has its own calling code. These are 1-3 digits long and are required when making calls.

The Ofcom or the UK Office of Communication is the organization that manages all the phone numbers in the UK. They have set up the dedicated National Telephone Numbering Plan for the nation that falls in the perimeter of the United Kingdom. In addition to the above, the phone numbers of British Crown dependencies such as the Guernsey, Jersey, and the Isle of Man are also mapped out by Ofcom.

The standard numbers are 9-10 digits of long and there exists a 3, 4, or 5-digit area code that is added as the prefix to the local phone number. The country code of the UK is 044 or +44.

So if you wish to call a number say 243546, you would need to add the country code and then the area code along with the above stated 6 digit number. The final number would be +44-01223-243546.

Note: This is to call a person in the UK in the Cambridge region.

Additional UK-Specific Codes

Is that all about UK phone numbers? Apparently not. There are a few other UK codes that you must be aware of. Note that these codes are required to place calls within or outside the UK.

0-> In case you are calling someone outside your region but within the UK, you would need to 0 as the prefix. This is the trunk code and an important code when making calls within the country to a different region.

00-> In case you wish to make a call to someone outside the UK, you would need to use the dial-out code 00.

05-> This is the prefix used to make calls within the corporate sector or when dialing the VoIP numbers.

07->  This is the prefix used to make calls to a mobile phone

09-> This is the prefix used for premium rated calls and is primarily reserved.

Alongside there are area codes specific to a particular region that is associated with the traditional number to have a call pass through.

Calling From a different country to the UK

Suppose that you are calling from a different country to a certain region in the UK. Here, you would need multiple things to ensure that the call isn’t blocked and that you connect with ease.

  1. You would need to exit code of your country
  2. The entry code or the calling code of the UK.
  3. The area code for the region you are about to make a call.
  4. The landline number

All of the above add to the calling.

Conclusion

By now, you must have understood where the 01223 phone code is for. Having said all of the above, it is pretty clear that calling in the UK isn’t like calling your friend next door. Whether it’s business communication or personal interaction, you must have the right set of codes and services from good providers such as cNumber.
