Have you bought a new phone or a laptop and want to connect to your wireless network but you don’t remember the password? Or You are in an office for some reason and nobody is willing to pass on their Wi-Fi password. Whatever the reason may be, you can still find the Wi-Fi password on a system with Windows installed on it. I will show you three simple methods to find the password on a Windows 10, 8, or Windows 7 PC or Laptop.
Method 1- Wireless properties on Windows
Go to a system that is already connected to Wi-Fi Network. Now navigate to the system tray and right click on the Wi-Fi icon and open Network and Sharing Center.

Now in the next window screen, under “View your active networks” click on the connected Wi-Fi Network as shown in the image below.

In the Wi-Fi status window, under the connection click on the Wireless Properties button.

Now in Wireless network properties click on the security tab. To view the network security key which is the current password of the connected Wi-Fi Router, select “Show Characters”.

Again open Network and Sharing Center and from the left sidebar menu, click on Manage Wireless Networks.

Now the next screen will present before you a list of wireless networks that shows not only the current WiFi connection but also the previously connected networks if any. Select the Wi-Fi network, you wish you to know the password of.

Now right-click on the selected network. Click on properties then security and finally select “show characters”.

Method 2- Find Wi-Fi Password with Command Prompt
In Windows 10 or Windows 8, you can also find the wireless password by using DOS commands. To do so right click on the start button in Windows 10 and select the command prompt (Admin)

Now type the following command to know all the user profiles (network names), your system uses to connect to.
netsh wlan show profiles
After you press enter, it will show all the Network SSID names as you can see in the image.

In the next step, you just need to select the wifi network for which you want to know the password. Now type the following command in the CMD screen.
netsh wlan show profile name=profilename key=clear
You just need to replace “profilename” with the Wi-Fi (user-profile) name found in the previous step.

Under the security settings, you can now find the password against the field key content. That’s it, you have got your WiFi password.
Method 3- Third Party Software
The above two methods are easy to follow but in case you are still not able to find the password, you can go for installing a 3rd party software to reveal the pass-key. Among the many apps available online, Wi-Fi password revealer is one of the best to find wireless network passwords in Windows OS.
It’s free software and works on both 32 and 64-bit operating systems. You can download it HERE for free.
Once you install and run it, this password revealer software will show you the passwords of all the current and previously connected networks. You can copy the password by right-clicking on any Wi-Fi name and clicking copy selected password.

I hope that you will be successful in finding a W-Fi password on any Windows-based PC by following any of the methods described here. Do share your views in the comments section.
